6/1/20: Living in the fast lane
Hello everyone! This week was another wild adventure in the California Fresno mission!
We started having language study with this sweet lady from El Salvador that lives in the apartment below us named Normi. She basically tells us stories about family drama for an hour but we get a word in everyone in awhile haha! We study outside in the shade sitting on a little picnic blanket. She is very sweet to have studies with us and help us out a bit!!
Honestly I have only been improving in the language since quarantine and that is a FAT blessing. Not as quickly as I was out and about with the people haha but my understanding has not stopped or moved backwards so that is good! We try and speak Spanish all day in the house... it works put sometimes haha.
Good thing too because we posted an add for free online English classs and it BLEW UP. So much that we had to get a few zones involved!! We are working full speed on that project!
We also had a lesson outside with a man named Gerardo! He kinda is not interested and just wanted to bash... but it felt good to be outside and kinda sorta teach! It was Hermana Curtis' first lesson with someone investigating the church and my first I awhile... we are really working on updating put teaching skills!!
We also were calling members and we called a wrong number but the man, Juan, on the other end was super interested and wanted a copy of the Book of Mormon!! So we set up a time and he sent us an address to meet him at and in the late afternoon (it was 110 degrees btw) we drove to the address... which was on the side of this super busy road and next to a crazy loud taco truck and an abandoned donut shop. So we waited and waited and we literally practiced like 20 times what we were gonna say becasue we were so excited and I was sweating so much and then this truck just rolls up and literally-it was hilarious-we were so desperate to talk to this man and we couldnt hear him or his friend (named Nacho..whaaaaat?) at all cause of all the noise and my Spanish was a fat mess and wow Hermana Curtis started going off about like Kolob and trying to read some of El Libro de Mormón to him and i was like ok this dude just wants this book and to GO... so we gave him the book and we set up a time to call him... fingers crossed that it works out.
We also almost got t boned driving back from a contact but I fish tailed out of the inter section so fast it was crazy
Also... there is like a whole bunch of riots going on in the area and a house was set on fire and stuff so we are getting more rules and regulations... it is a crazy time! But there is peace to be found and you really dont have to look too hard becasue you are locked inside with it. Your family, your scriptures, your ability to pray... it is time to start turning to those things!! Stay healthy and safe everyone! Lots of love!
