4/20/20: why did the Hermana cross the road? to catch the chicken!
Hello from Ceres California!!! I went from like rural country sides and crazy hicks to like factories and cartels all in one day... Ceres is kinda crazy... and I like it! Also no here speaks English. I LOVE it here already. Obviously I haven't seen much of the town or met many people I person but I am just itching to get out there but we have plenty of work to do from inside.
Here is the situation. My companion Hermana Heiner was here a week before the quarantine and did not have a lot of opportunities, for a variety of reasons, to meet people before being locked in. The 3 other missionaries that were here before Hermana Heiner were all sent to different areas to fulfill other demands and so two areas were combined into one that we now cover. Soooooooo everyone in our area book and ward is new to the both of us!! We have been working hard to get the area into shape and meet as many people as possible... via phone and Facebook... which if you can imagine poses some challanges... but we are getting over them through a little elbow grease and the lord!!
Our branch mission leader, Hermano Perez, is hilarious. He has invited us over about once a day to play "just dance" with him and his daughters... which we probably couldnt do anyways despite the quarantine haha... and when we turn him down he will show up randomly outside the apartment with a pizza or homemade tacos... he also knows everyone in the ward and has been telling them to call us and get to know us... he also knows everyone in Ceres that ever has wanted to be or ever will want to be baptized!
We choose a different area of the city each day to take walks in and locate where all the potentials, members, and friends live and leave little phone number, come to jesus cards at their door... we cant knock and talk face to face but we have got some phone calls from it!!
We also spend a lot of time with this new social media initiative that our president has put forward!! Each of our districts and zones within the mission has a little Facebook page where we will be posting quality videos of local members, ourselves as missionaries, and friends sharing testimonies, uplifting stories, and scriptures! Here is the link! Please follow and like the page and then share!! With like everyone you know! https://www.facebook.com/
It really is a wondeulf idea and it has got Hermana Heiner and I thinking about how we can more creatively reach out to this community!! It should be fun!!
Well more good things to come next week! This place is amazing!!!
Paz y bendiciones...
Hermana Allen
