9/30/19....Charades and hesitant bible bashing
Well this week was crazy! But a good, busy kind of way! I saw a lot of miracles this week...like for example, the man i wrote about last week, Marcelino (there is a picture of us at the temple with him attached to this email) told us he no longer has any desire to drink coffee! He also said he has been trying to teach his family in Honduras about the gospel which is awesome BECAUSE THE MISSIONARIES FOUND HIS FAMILY! We got in contact with and learned yesterday that the missionaries that are serving in the area of Honduras where Marcelino's family lives were able to find and teach Marcelino's wife and kids! Which is amazing because they apparently live in a really isolated part of town!
Another miracle is that we were able to find a lady named Yarah that we have been trying to teach for a really long time! Yarah is deaf and was referred to us by a member in Los Angeles. We were told where she lived by some friends of a friend and so we decided to take a leap of faith and try to find her. So we drove to the area (which was very isolated) described and found this giant garage thing surrounded by little sheds. It was really dark and everyone was inside these little shed houses and we couldn't call out Yarah's name...becasue she is deaf... so we were just awkwardly walking around the fields and sheds looking for her...until we saw her! She was coming out to take out the trash and we were able to sign with her and set up an appointment! Hermana Brown knows sign language... i don't...but i was able to prepare learn enough so i could bare my testimony and pray during the lesson!
The lesson itself went really amazing and we learned a lot about Yarah... She just barely started learning sign language because she never had any resources until now but...she knows more Mexican sign language than ASL so it is pretty hard to communicate with her...and we can't write anything down because she can't read...soooooo our lesson included a lot of charades! It was totally worth it though, Yarah wanted to learn everything we could teach her! when we told her that God loved her she got so excited! she had never been told or realized that before...we also explained that after the resurrection she would be able to hear and she stood up and got so excited!!! it was amazing!!
It was honestly a miracle that we found her and even more so that Hermana Brown was the missionary to find her because she knows sign language and Spanish!
We also met a nice guy, Genaro, that worked at a taco truck we go to pretty often. He said that he was interested in learning more about the gospel and said that he wanted to set up a time to meet and said he would even bring his brother to the meeting! I was thinking "wow his is a dream come true!" but the day of the appointment arrived and Genaro arrived to where we were meeting with his CHURCH PASTOR...his spiritual brother... and I think uh oh. We are about to get bible fried... but the lesson went well... they both listened to what we had to say. So we gave a copy of the Book of Mormon to both of them and when we gave it to the pastor he told us that he was going to rip it apart doctrinally and try and disprove it... hermana brown and I just looked at each other and said go ahead! We know it is true and that it testifies of Christ! We were then able to share our testimonies about it and even set up a follow up appointment to talk more!
I love the gospel! Have a great week!
