2/17/20: Red Flags?

 Ok here we go.

This week we visited our little recent convert Jose Chiquillo (he is the dude that literally hates people and loves animals and just wants to live in isolation with a pet pony and his Book of Mormon) but apparently he got into family history so when he answered the door he came out wearing a bright pink, sequined Kippah... because he said he found out that he had Jewish ancestry and wanted to embrace his culture... As far as I am concerned that man is 110% El Salvadorian?? But I guess super good for him for getting into family history online because he doesn't usually trust computers.
This week we went on exchanges and I got to go with Sister Johnson and visit some of the people I was teaching before the split! We went to go visit a lady named Yvonne who, before the split, I was working with. And she has been moving very very very slowly and demanding a lot of us without a lot of output. So when we went to this lesson and I saw that no progress had been made on her end-no commitments kept, no change... I got super frustrated. The whole lesson we were trying to help her fill out a job application and wow I just had a bad attitude. We left the lesson and I just complained to Sister Johnson about everything and how we wasted so much time just sitting there with her and Sister Johnson just turned to me and said... I don't know Sister Allen, I think Jesus proably would have sat there and helped her fill out that application. Oof. That hit me really hard. I realized that actually that was not a waste of time, if that is how we could have shown Yvonne love than that was 110% not a waste of time. Basically that one sentence made me think about everything I was doing as a missionary and I decided I needed to pray for charity...
Good thing I prayed for Charity because the next day we helped this lady who called us move her furniture from a storage unit to another unit down the line and she kept changing her mind about where to put things after we had already moved them so it was a lot of back and forth... we would have been at it all day but a member of our ward called us and told us to drop what we were doing and leave as soon as possible... apparently this lady is actually crazy calls and asks for help every time she learns there is new missionaries in town and has them do the same thing all day and a ward member saw us and put two and two together and called us and told us what was up... so we moved a couple more things and then told her we needed to go... kinda funky...
Speaking of crazy... we found a house in town that hosts a bunch of migrant workers and a couple of them during the week said they were interested in going to 11am spanish service and wanted a ride so we found a ride and showed up sunday... and everyone had just suddenly changed their mind except for one man... who was shirtless...and refused to put on a shirt to church. We eventually got him to put one on and brought him to church and wow he had the time of his life there haha! He was talking to everyone and asking questions and taking notes! His literal, actual, no joke, name is Juan de Dios Santos. (John of God Holy). He is pretty fun fella.
Alright. Last story. About our perfect, golden friend Yair! We had a lesson with him right after church yesterday and we were talking about his baptism this upcoming Saturday and he started expressing a lot of guilt for some things in his past and told us he knows that this is all true but that he did not feel worthy for baptism yet and wanted to be living the commandments completely before being baptized.. all really good things but we didn't want him to feel guilty for everything in his past sooo we told Yair to go into the chapel and pray right then and there and ask God about a new baptismal date. He agreed and liked the idea so we went into the chapel and we were about to start praying when Carlos (Yair's little 8 year old step brother who he brings to church) runs and just starts throwing up everywhere.... I was like whaaaaaaat is Satan trying to pull on uuuuuusssss please dont take this as a sign that you shouldn't get baptized.... so we helped Carlos and started cleaning up and Carlos went to go take a nap on a couch in the church and Yair kept praying while we cleaned and after a bit he just stood up and said that March 11th felt right and that in the meantime he wanted to finish the Book of Mormon and go to church and learn as much as possible. It all worked out in the end and honestly Yair is awesome. We are going to work super hard to bring him even closer to Christ!!
All is crazy and well and all that here! Love you all lots!
